Rael issued a statement today reprimanding Israel for its recent attack on a convoy of ships carrying humanitarian aid destined for Gaza. The attack caused at least 10 civilian deaths and led to a quick condemnation of the Israeli military action by the U.N. Security Council, which called the situation in Gaza “unsustainable.”
Rael said he agreed with the Security Council’s rebuke, but that it didn’t go far enough.
“This was a real act of piracy in international waters,” he emphasized. “Israel could simply have searched the ships once they reached its territorial waters. At that point, it would have been easy to check for any weapons that might be aboard and then let the ships go through peacefully, since these ships were carrying only humanitarian aid. But Israel chose to use violence against non-violent people in international waters, which is by definition an act of piracy.”
Rael said Israel has repeatedly flaunted international accords by taking aggressive, unwarranted action against civilians, and that its superior nuclear capacity is especially worrisome in such a context.
“Israel has 100 nuclear weapons and refuses any foreign control over them, yet it pushes the world to ensure Iran doesn't get any such weapons whatsoever,” he commented “You may be sure Israel would use its own nuclear missiles without hesitation against any country it decides it doesn't like. Let's hope that the entire world will be united against such a dangerous government and that the United States will stop supporting it unconditionally. How can children of Shoa survivors act so barbarically?”
